Anita, our vegetarian, cooked dinner tonight: "Chunky Oven Baked Ratatouille." She went to the library and borrowed vegetarian cookbooks to find her recipes and has volunteered to cook one meal a week. She served the ratatouille with rice pilaf. Delicious!!!!! Great job Anita. Thanks for a very yummy meal.
Some people come into our lives and quickly go..... Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts..... and we are never, ever the same.

My Sister Maureen's Birthday Today - 7/25/10
If you click on the photo it will enlarge it for a better look. Wasn't Mom Mom, our mother, really beautiful?
Today is my sister's birthday. The pictures were taken when we were toddlers in Easthampton, MA in the early 1940s. There weren't a lot of pictures of Maureen because it was during World War II and my Mom told us that film was scarse back then. Isn't she adorable with the bucket on her head? She's the one on the right in the top picture. Happy 68th Birthday Sis. LOL

Memorable Birthday Lunch with Daughter Donna Today 7/21/10
Today was a happy day for me. My daughter Donna invited me for a birthday lunch at her home where I was served shish kabobs with vegetables, chicken and sea scallops. And, fresh fruit. The whole lunch was a real treat. We hung by and in the pool and chatted. The one on one time was truly special. Thank you Donna. It was the best birthday present. Love You.

Ramapo Tomato Thief Spotted 7/16/10 and Other Garden News
Tomato news - BLT tomorrow!!!!!
This is the tomato that I picked and was going to eat green. I was determined to eat a tomato before the squirrel took off with it. With patience, I noticed it turning red soooo, tomorrow I am going to make me a BLT with the first red tomato from our garden.

Anita spotted the squirrel grabbing and running with one of the large Ramapo tomatoes. We ran outside and yelled at the squirrel until he dropped the tomato. He left his teeth marks in it. We brought it in the house and may eat the good half. After all, this is my "hope to be great Ramapo tomato" the tomato created by Rutger's Univ. to bring back the "Jersey Tomato" flavor we haven't tasted for many years. As you can see, I went to Lowe's and bought screening to wrap around the tomato plants. Keeping my fingers crossed.
These are a few of the tomatoes on one of the Ramapo plants. I hope to taste a couple of big, red, juicy tomatoes before the summer is over. My small garden seems to be fighting challenges that change from day to day. The squirrel ate off the corn stalks. There were six, now there is one. The beetles were eating the mint. Dill is a lost cause. Oh well! And then there's the destruction of the butterfly bush. It seems to be coming back, slowly. A butterfly actually visits the few blossoms on the sparce plant. And, the milkweed plant is dying. I guess it will not be home for Monarch butterflies. I don't know what's killing it.

Surprise Birthday Cake - Finally it was Cool Enough to Bake 7/14/10
Blew out all of the candles on one try. Thank goodness they didn't put on 69 of them.
Powdered sugar instead of icing. Just the way I like it. I ate three pieces. BELLY ACHE. haha
After I removed the remainder of the cake from the pan, this heart was on the pan, a smaller version of the cake, from the middle and outlined with powdered sugar. NEAT!!!!!
Tonight, the kids surprised me with a birthday cake that we did not have on my birthday, June 20, 'cause it was too hot to turn on the oven. We went out for ice cream instead. Tonight was the first cool night since and so they asked if they could bake the cake. I told them that technically, it's my birthday cake, never expecting them to do the candles and the singing and the whole bit. Nice surprise!!!!! Thanks Anita, Antonio and Stacy. It's great to feel loved.

KABOOM Fireworks at Red Bank, NJ 7/3/10
I didn't take pictures. Forgot the camera. I am going to atttempt to download the Kaboom video from their site. Hope it works 'cause those fireworks are the best and our favorite. It was actually kind of nice to watch and not be worrying about getting the best picture.
The highlight for me was the recording of Bon Jovi singing "Make a Memory" with the fireworks shooting up in sync with the song. A guy that was near our spot proposed to his girlfriend during the song. What a guy. Where does one find someone that special?
For now I am directing you to You Tube. Look up Kaboom Fireworks, Redbank, NJ 7/3/10 with Bon Jovi singing "Make a Memory."

Garden Update 7/3/10
The tomato plants are loving this heat. When I checked it today 7/7/10, I saw many more tomatoes popping out.
This is what the butterfly bush looks like after the japanese beetles chewed off all of the leaves. I treated the bush with liquid onion and water and it seems to be keeping the JBs off. Today, 7/7/10, a large yellow and black butterfly was on a flower on the bush. I was beyond excited. Doesn't take much to make me happy. haha

Davey's High School Graduation - 6/25/10 - Yay Davey!!!!!
Graduation evening. I love this picture. Don't they all look great?.....family smiles all across.
Davey and me. I'm so proud of Davey, as a graduate and, 'cause he's an awesome guy.
The procession to his seat. He walked with a skip in his step. Graduation day is here and he has reached the culmination of his high school years. Next, on to college.
Davey's in the back row on the right. When I arrived at graduation, I expected a class as large as Roxanne's. Debbie reminded me that New Egypt High is much smaller then Hammonton High. The ceremony was a lot shorter. This shot is half of the class. I can see you standing out in the back Davey. Standing proud. Love You!
